Prison Officers supervise every aspect of a prisoner's life. In addition to custodial duties, Prison Officers need to build and maintain good relationships with prisoners. You'll have to balance authority with understanding.
You'll need a common sense approach to the job, be able to stand up for your values and be fair and consistent in the way you treat offenders. It's a role like no other and one of the most rewarding things about it is knowing that you're helping the community.

Work-Related Requirements

You must be an Australian Citizen, an Australian Permanent Resident, or a New Zealand Citizen to be eligible for permanent appointment to a Prison Officer position.

No formal qualifications are required to apply.

Applicants must be available for assessment within Australia. Travel to and from all assessments is at the applicant’s expense.

All applicants are required to undergo a National Criminal History check and Integrity Assessment.
Successful applicants will be placed in an Appointment Pool from which job offers may be made when vacancies occur for up to 12 months. Placement in the Appointment Pool does not guarantee a job offer.
